Invigorates blood and qi, breaks up stagnation, relieves internal wind, tonifes blood, yin and qi. Primarily used to address symptoms related to stroke, including hemiplegia, speech disturbances, contractive or flaccid muscle tone in the extremities. Also valuable in chronic wind-damp rheumatism with stagnation of qi in the channels, causing difficulty in movement with painful joints, or numbness and tingling of limbs. Useful in Bell's Palsy (wind induced facial paralysis). Source: From experience, developed for the Imperial Palace, Qing Dynasty, 1644-1911. It is also in the current Pharmacopoeia of the People’s Republic of China. Function: Calm internal wind; dispel external wind; eliminate phlegm, promote blood circulation; clear the stuck qi and stuck blood in the meridians caused by wind and mucous. Application: Use to treat sequelae of stroke (Zhong Feng, apoplexy) as soon as possible after the patient’s medical and neurological conditions are stable. (Do not use while bleeding is still occurring in hemorrhage cases.) Can also be used for seequelae from head injury cases after the medical and neurological conditions are stable. Symptoms: Facial paralysis, limb paralysis (paralysis may be spastic or flaccid), impaired speech and articulation. The patient should also be receiving physical therapy and speech therapy while taking this herbal medicine, if possible. Use to prevent stroke in patients who have already had transient ischemic attacks (TIA’s or other neurological problems sometimes associated with a pre-stroke condition-i.e. motor, sensory or visual abnormalities from which there has been rapid recovery. Contraindication: Do not use while pregnant. Boxes of 20 wax eggs, each containing a large tarry pill. Directions: As a dietary supplement take the contents of one box 2 times a day with warm water.
